Top 5 Reasons to Travel Light

If you’re still not convinced that travelling light is the only way to travel in the 21st century, we’ve put together what we think are the Top 5 reasons that will help you get on board:

1. Freedom.  To be honest our first reason could easily fill the remaining 4 lines as well. It’s Freedom. The very clear benefits of not being bogged down by too much baggage has to be experienced to be believed. Not only do you literally feel lighter on your feet as you avoid lugging around too big suitcases and bags, but you also know where all of your important gear is all the time so there is less travel anxiety.  Seriously folks, Freedom is it.
    2. Cost.  Ryanair charge up to €59.99 to put a suitcase in the hold.  Most people are paying to take a suitcase of clothes with them for 2 weeks. We think that’s crazy! With some smart choices of clothes for your destination there is no reason why you can’t travel for a couple of weeks with what you can wear from day one.  Even if you find you need an extra t-shirt or trousers whilst you are away, you already have a saving in the bank from not paying for hold-luggage. Smart.
      3. Time. This is a big one at the moment (August 2022), when many airports are struggling to deal with the increase in travellers after the Covid restrictions have been lifted. There are horror stories of people waiting hours to get their luggage, if they even get it at all. With minimalist, lightweight travel you can simply breeze through Departures and Arrivals with no delays, safe in the knowledge that you have what you need with you all the time.
        4. Flexibility. If you have all of your travel gear with you whilst touring you have infinite flexibility. You are no longer tied to finding somewhere to store your luggage. You no longer have to retrace your steps to where you have left your luggage, you can keep going to where you want to go and if you find somewhere that looks like a great place to stay you can just book in on the fly. Why tie yourself to one location - whose trip is this? - yours or your luggage?
          5. Health. Our final top reason is health. We’ve seen a lot of “backpackers” loaded up with huge packs that are almost as big as them. Typically they’ll be lugging their bags through hot steamy locations and they look absolutely drained. How is that fun?, let alone good for your back, arms and neck? Not a good look, we think.  The beauty of minimalist travel with the sling style bags we use is that they are small and light and you just won’t be able to load up with excess belongings. Comfort is assured with these bags, which can be situated on your back to minimise contact and almost completely eliminate that horrible back sweat that you get from carrying standard rucksacks or backpacks. Yes, minimalist travel is the way to go. Your body will thank you for it.
